Muslims, particularly, Oyo State pilgrims in Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have been admonished to always exercise patience and perseverance (Sabir) because pilgrimage is not only a physical journey but also a spiritual test.
A veteran Islamic cleric, Fhodilat Sheik Zhikrullah Yahaya Imam gave the admonition during his sermon titled “Practicing Patience in All Situations of Life”, at Diyar El Shaab Mosque, Mecca, KSA, on Friday, 15th May, 2026.
The senior Islamic scholar noted that Patience (Sabir), is considered one of the highest spiritual qualities a Muslim must possess, noting that Qur’an repeatedly praises those who remain patient during hardship, worship, travel, conflict and daily life.
“Patience and perseverance are like salt in the soup. Islam teaches that the value of pilgrimage is not only in completing the rituals, but also in maintaining good character throughout the journey. A pilgrim who practises Sabir not only completes Hajj exercise outwardly but will also return spiritually transformed”, submitted Sheik Yahaya.
He concluded by enjoining the 2026 Oyo State Pilgrims that Hajj exercise can be physically demanding but Patience encourages kindness, tolerance and humility and it helps pilgrims to worship with sincerity.
