The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has concluded arrangements for the airlift of intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia ahead of the 2026 Hajj exercise.
At a stakeholders’ meeting in Dutse, the Director-General of the board, Ahmad Labbo, said the state had completed about 70 per cent of its preparations.
“We have reached about 70 per cent readiness. Essential items such as bags have been distributed, and our pilgrims are now awaiting movement to the Hajj camp,” Labbo said.
He commended Governor Umar Namadi for his support, noting that “the board’s operational model is now being recognised and adapted by other states and even the National Hajj Commission.”
The meeting had in attendance the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria Zonal Coordinator for Kano, Jigawa and Katsina, Muhammad Kalgo, alongside representatives of Umza Airline, Dutse International Airport, Customs, Immigration, NDLEA, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, Police, NAFDAC, hoteliers and media organisations.
Kalgo praised the state’s level of preparedness, saying “Jigawa has demonstrated proactive and timely planning, strictly adhering to the approved timelines.”
He added that “NAHCON will carry out final inspections of all arrangements before the airlift begins.”
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Umza Airline said “the airlift of pilgrims will commence on May 4, with flights scheduled to depart at 8:30 p.m.”
Labbo thanked stakeholders for their contributions, stating that “we appreciate the commitment of all partners and the unwavering support of the state government towards ensuring a smooth and peaceful Hajj exercise.”
