The Sokoto State Government has provided financial assistance to 47 pilgrims who lost money during the just-concluded 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.

The affected pilgrims received refunds amounting to 50 per cent of the money they lost either in Madinah or Makkah.

Speaking while monitoring the disbursement, the State Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi, Sodangi Acida, commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial.

He said the gesture would help ease the hardship experienced by the affected pilgrims and reflected the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the people of Sokoto State.

Also speaking, Chairman of the 2026 Welfare Committee, Malami Dan Isha, confirmed that all 47 affected pilgrims received half of the amount they lost during their stay in the holy land.

He recalled that the state government had earlier provided every Sokoto pilgrim with a Sallah gift of 1,000 Saudi Riyals and urged the beneficiaries to continue praying for peace, unity and prosperity in Sokoto State and Nigeria.
