NAHCON 4 days Retreats Ends, harps on “good corporate governance”

Board members and management staff of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria ended a four day working retreat. Theme of the event was Anatomy of a Successful Hajj Financing and Logistics Planning. The retreat took place at the Yankari Game Resort, Bauchi from 25th to 29th of November, 2020.

Purpose of the retreat according to Alhaji Nura Yakassai, Commissioner Policy Personnel Management and Finance (PPMF) was to familiarize delegates with the operations of National Hajj Commission, as well as to specify the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder in the management and affairs of the Commission, to bring together stakeholders in the Hajj industry in order to brainstorm and collectively find ways of improving Hajj operations in Nigeria and to keep Board Members as well as Commissioners abreast with NAHCON’s business for the sake of good corporate governance. To achieve this, the Commission invited personalities with expertise in business ethics and management, Hajj management, as well as religious-oriented Hajj veterans to train participants on strategic procedures for excellent results.

While declaring the retreat open, Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan the NAHCON Chairman expressed hope that the serene environment provided by Yankari Games Resort will afford participants the opportunity to de-stress from the usual rush of Abuja for a chance to look with new eyes alternative ways of generating revenue without impacting negatively on the purse of pilgrims.

He paid tributes especially to the two immediate past Chairmen of NAHCON, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello and Barr. Abdullahi Mukhtar Muhammad MON, FCIA whose dedications, selflessness’ and commitments led to many giant strides the Commission had achieved in the last decade, he stated.

After paper presentations, historical submissions for sharing of knowledge and understanding of how past leaders navigated through major difficulties, after robust discussions on identified challenges, the participants broke into groups with the task of formulating new strategies, guidelines and approaches to the identified challenges. Thereafter, each group presented its proposals for endorsement or otherwise. The report will be made available soon.
