The Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board secretary, Babatunde Fasasi, has urged early preparations for the 2026 Hajj following the experiences of this year’s operations.

Speaking during an interview with HAJJ REPROTERS in Makkah, Fasasi highlighted challenges faced by Nigerian pilgrims, including initial issues with Basic Travel Allowance (BTA), limited access to medical facilities, and feeding arrangements that did not fully reflect Nigerian cuisine.

He commended the federal government and Central Bank of Nigeria for resolving the BTA cuts but stressed the need for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to prioritize early clinic setup in Makkah and Medina. Fasasi also praised the smooth transportation and improved general arrangements compared to previous years, though he emphasised that menu adjustments are still needed to meet pilgrims’ expectations.

Fasasi credited the intervention of the Oyo State Governor and the Board Chairman for securing suitable accommodation close to the Haram after initial bookings were revoked. He revealed that plans are already underway to secure accommodations early for 2026 to avoid a repeat of this year’s challenges.
