The Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board has announced that 825 intending pilgrims will participate in the 2026 Hajj, marking a significant increase from the state’s previous annual average of about 500.
Speaking at a farewell ceremony held at the board’s premises on Monday, the Amir-Hajj, Alhaji Adam Zikrillah Chandy, said the pilgrims would be airlifted in two batches, with the first departing on May 7 and the second on May 9. He attributed the increase to improved organisation and the support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in making the pilgrimage more accessible.
Chandy said distribution of Hajj identification cards had commenced, stressing that the cards serve as official identification and contain details of accommodation, including room and bed allocation in Makkah.
He advised pilgrims to keep the cards safe at all times, noting that replacement abroad could be difficult.
The Amir-Hajj also urged the pilgrims to comply with luggage regulations, declare any health conditions, and maintain discipline throughout the exercise, reminding them that they represent the state.
He thanked the governor, board members and officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria for their support and prayed for a successful pilgrimage.
