The government of Saudi Arabia has begun an initiative to host four international television stations with the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) on its NigComSat-1R satellite.
The initiative would mark a significant step towards enhancing media diversity and accessibility in Nigeria, paving the way for more international collaborations in the telecommunications sector.
Our correspondent gathered that a delegation of Saudi Arabia officials from the Embassy had visited NigComSat to conclude the arrangement after an inspection of its facilities.
The visit to NigComSat Ground Control Station was led by Head of Saudi Arabia Embassy’s media team, Mohammed Alsahabi, while NigComSat Executive Director of Technical Services, Abiodun Attah, stood in for NigComSat’s Managing Director, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen.
NigComSat said discussions had reached advanced stage regarding the collaboration between the Saudi Arabia authorities and NigComSat.
“The meeting underscored the commitment of both parties to enhance media collaboration and expand broadcasting capabilities through advanced satellite technology.
“The proposed hosting of the four television channels on NigComSat-1R is expected to facilitate improved access to diverse content for audiences in Nigeria and beyond, while also strengthening cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria,” NigComSat’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Aisha Bantam, said yesterday in Abuja.
