The commissioner representing the North East at the National Hajj Commission, NAHCON Abuja Abba Jatau has appealed to Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration to provide funds to the State Pilgrims Welfare Board so that the Board can meet the December 21st dateline issued by the Saudi Authorities for the payment of hajj fares to the commission.
Abba Jatau made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House, Monday.
The North East Hajj commissioner explained that when early payments are made to the Saudi Authorities through the National Hajj Commission, the tendency of logical failures associated with pilgrimage can be addressed to a larger degree.
He equally added that the issuance of visas to intending pilgrims will close on the 2nd of February 2026.
On matters surrounding the health of intending pilgrims, Abba Jatau reveals that the Saudi Authorities have issued a guideline indicating that vaccination of pilgrims is mandatory, while pregnant women, the elderly, sick and those with mental illness are prohibited from performing the exercise.
The North East commissioner of the National Hajj Commission, NAHCON, commended the Executive Secretary,Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Sa’adu Hassan, for his commitment to the success of Hajj exercises at both the State and National levels.
Responding, Governor Mahammadu Inuwa Yahaya represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi explained that the visit by the National Hajj Commission NAHCON will strengthen the commitment of the present administration in the state to address the challenges.
Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi noted that while the payment of hajj fares by intending pilgrims in the state is relatively low, the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will look into the issues raised with a view to addressing them within available resources.
On the health issues earlier raised by the North East Hajj Commissioner, the Gombe SSG assures the National Hajj Commission that the State will consolidate on previous records and will emphasise the compulsory vaccination of intending pilgrims from the State.
The NAHCON officials were accompanied on the courtesy visit by the executive secretary of Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Sa’adu Hassan and staff, while the Commissioner of Healt,h Dr Habu Dahiru and Perm Sec SS&Pol Salisu Adamu Sambo joined the SSG in receiving the NAHCON officials.
