Saudi authorities have announced a ban on photography inside the Haram Mosque and the Masjid Al-Nabawi during the 2026 Hajj season. The measure is aimed at preserving the sanctity of worship and ensuring a serene atmosphere for pilgrims.
The decision follows growing concerns over disruptive behaviour caused by constant photo and video taking within the two holy sites. Officials noted that the prevalence of camera use has, in recent years, affected the spirituality and movement of pilgrims.
Authorities said the restriction will allow pilgrims to observe their rites in a more orderly and reverent environment, free from congestion triggered by phone and camera lenses. They stressed that adherence to guidelines within the two mosques is both a legal and moral obligation.
New organisational measures are expected to be deployed, including monitoring teams assigned to guide pilgrims and remind visitors of the etiquette of worship in the holy sites.
