The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has called on Islamic leaders to guide the Muslim community towards moral renewal, unity, and responsible civic engagement as Ramadan approaches.

In his welcome address at the Council’s annual Pre-Ramadan Lecture and General Assembly, President Sheikh Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, OON, urged the Ulama to deliver teachings that “heal, not inflame; guide, not divide,” emphasizing compassion, justice, and tolerance in all religious engagements.

Sheikh Umar highlighted the need for urgent moral reformation, reminding believers that ethical decay attracts divine displeasure. He also encouraged Muslims to turn to sincere repentance, constant supplication, and spiritual renewal, particularly in seeking relief from insecurity and socio-economic challenges facing the nation.

The Council further advised responsible use of social media, cautioning against spreading falsehoods, and encouraged participation in the Continuous Voter Registration, stressing that leadership is a trust requiring accountability and justice.

“Muslims should pray for righteous leaders and advocate for those who uphold justice, fairness, and the fear of Allah,” Sheikh Umar said, urging both the Ulama and authorities to uphold their responsibilities with integrity.

The assembly, attended by religious leaders and scholars across Nigeria, set the tone for a spiritually reflective and socially responsible Ramadan.
